Source: Dutch want to smoke NY's Amsterdam off map

AMSTERDAM — The Washington Redskins name isn’t the only one these days causing controversy.
A contingent of diplomats from the Netherlands visited the Montgomery County city of Amsterdam this week and left within an hour, demanding that its name be changed.
The city bears the same moniker as the Dutch capital city, a fact that did not sit well with the visiting diplomats. A source said none of them left their car, and described the hardscrabble upstate city as "walgelijk."
"They thought it was a practical joke. They said they'd rather spend a day in a Dutch oven," said one insider, referring to the well-known practice in which one farts underneath a blanket and traps another person inside of it.
Amsterdam officials here said the Dutch contingent officially told them they forgot to buy dessert and would be back in an hour. They instead left the country.
"We welcome the opportunity to showcase our wonderful city and hope the Dutch come back every year!" a high-ranking Amsterdam official said with a straight face.
Officials overseas in Holland declined to comment. Their next stop was Syria, which they said they were eager to see after visiting Montgomery County.
