COHOES — Johnny Football has finally gone off the deep end and has landed in the Spindle City.
Johnny Manziel, the troubled quarterback who is expected to be cut by the Cleveland Browns for excessive boozing and shenanigans, was seen Tuesday “partying like it’s 1999” at Poppers Tavern, a popular gin mill on Remsen Street.
“Yeah we saw him,” said Marty Boner, 39, a lifelong Cohoes resident. “We did shots with him. He showed us his tattoos.”
Manziel, 23, a Heisman Trophy winner at Texas A & M, was drafted 22nd overall in the 2014 NFL Draft but has been a bust because of poor play, constant alcohol issues and partying in Las Vegas when he is supposed to be at practice. He reportedly showed up in Cohoes, a source told The Smudge, “after mistakenly thinking it was a really shitty part of Cleveland.”
Bob Gutt, who was working the bar at Poppers, said Manziel showed off his signature “Money Manziel” pose in which the quarterback pretends to flash dollars in his hand.
“It was neat. The only problem is Johnny had no real money,” Gutt said. "We had him work the bar for a few hours to pay his tab."
Manziel then showed up hammered at Knockers, a new strip club on Peebles Island.
“Wanna sign my balls?” Manziel hollered at a stripper. “Woo hoo! Money, yo!”
Last week, Manziel’s father told reporters he was concerned for his son’s life, and now the family appears to be more worried than ever about his whereabouts, sources said.
“We were worried enough about him in Vegas,” said Brock Duckula, a family spokesman. “But Cohoes? Not good at all.”
