COHOES — Brad Pitt — America’s sexiest sex symbol, Hollywood A-Lister and international humanitarian — has pledged to focus the might of the Jolie-Pitt Foundation on the Capital Region “wasteland” of Cohoes.
The foundation — one of the many Jolie-Pitt institutions that seek to address human suffering — has pledged to build and give away sustainable, green, clean, eco-friendly, energy efficient homes to city residents.
Having visited Cohoes last week on Valentine’s Day with his soon-to-be ex-wife Angelina Jolie, Pitt had a chance to see Cohoes firsthand and became enthusiastic about the change that he’s certain his foundation can bring about.
“Initially I thought the town was deserted, you know? Like one of those Dust Bowl towns. Then I saw all these new brick buildings, but no people. It’s the darndest thing. What this town needs is people. And these super cool new houses will make people want to move to Cohoes.”
Pitt’s foundation has built innovative, green, sustainable homes in areas for victims of natural disasters (New Orleans), and in communities with chronic poverty and big time crime (Newark, NJ). But this would be the first time the socially conscious Hollywood star trained his sights on Small Town USA.
And in a nod to the locals, Pitt — who along with Jolie once vowed to never marry until people of all sexual orientations could — said he would not break ground on any of the new homes until “all people can get high,” adding that he is hopeful his foundation can nudge lawmakers to relax New York’s current laws regarding recreational marijuana.
“We’re willing to start at the grassroots level. Kind of like community organizing, but for weed,” he said. “So we’re willing to break ground once everyone in Cohoes can get high. Or is high. And as far as I can tell, we’re already at least halfway there.”
